About Me
The Heart Behind the Creativity
Hi! I'm EmJay, a creator, storyteller, and proud mom of Dori, a rescued American Pitbull Terrier. Our journey together has inspired much of my work. Dori has a red nose, a big heart, and an even bigger personality. When my husband Tim and I adopted her from a shelter in Denver three years ago, I didn’t realize she’d end up rescuing me too.
I spent years working in retail and customer service, pouring my heart into every job. But when PTSD and Depression struck, everything changed. I struggled to keep going and felt lost. Tim knew I needed something—or someone—to help me heal, so we decided to adopt a dog. From the moment Dori bounded into our lives, she became my rock. Her unconditional love and boundless joy reminded me to keep fighting, even when life felt overwhelming.
A year ago, I faced the darkest moment of my life, nearly losing everything—including myself. But something shifted inside me. I wasn’t ready to give up. With Dori by my side, I began to rebuild—not just my health but my sense of purpose. Every wag of her tail and every moment of comfort she gave me was a reminder that life was still worth fighting for.
That’s when I discovered my love for creating. Whether it’s telling stories, designing coloring books, or building a community of support and inspiration, everything I do reflects the values Dori helped me rediscover: resilience, compassion, and the belief that everyone deserves a chance to shine.
One of the projects closest to my heart is Dori: A Story of Love and Rescue, which tells the tale of how Dori changed my life and how rescue animals like her have so much love to give. My hope is that her story touches your heart and inspires you to open your home and heart to a rescue animal. Shelters are full of animals waiting for a second chance, and every adoption saves a life—not just the animal’s but yours too.
To everyone who has been part of this journey, thank you. Whether you’re reading Dori’s story, coloring in one of my books, or simply stopping by to say hello, I’m so grateful for your support.
Life doesn’t always turn out the way we plan, but sometimes the greatest joys come from the unexpected. For me, that joy came in the form of a rescued Pitbull who taught me about love, strength, and second chances. Dori showed me that new beginnings are always possible.
Here’s to creating, dreaming, and always believing in second chances.
